it's totally random whether my mails get to enet list or
silently dropped.]

For your real-ish time demands, I rather suspect that
you really want to use ENet's 'unreliable' packet mode and
manually split the data into smaller packets (perhaps per-
scanline), since getting some/most the data in good time seems
more important than getting all of it in lousy time -- and that's
ENet's strength.  I think you'll then see rather improved
perceived performance.
